EL.MOTION: The intelligent drive system from Erhardt+Leimer
In recent years, the demand for easily integratable drive technology in industry has grown. As a specialist for automation on running webs, Erhardt+Leimer recognized this requirement early and developed EL.MOTION, a state-of-the-art, intelligent, and powerful drive concept.
March 2026
The EL.MOTION product portfolio includes linear and rotary drives in the range of 90 to 500 W, which are aligned with current market requirements such as integration, smart functions, safety, synchronization, and modular communication. The complete integration of central functions such as motor control, encoders, application, STO, fieldbus, filesystem, or web-based management results in a unified drive system for customers with minimal implementation effort.
What EL.MOTION offers:
Encoder and Positioning Technology
EL.MOTION drives feature a power-failure-proof, battery-less 12-bit multiturn encoder. This ensures that the absolute position is immediately available even after a power outage, without a homing run, which means enormous time savings during plant downtimes.
Integrated Control
Especially in rail-guided applications, precise position controls are required. Position, speed, and torque controllers are therefore standard, and functions such as speed clamping and torque limitation can be activated at any time. Additionally, the integrated automatic system identification (ASI) detects the inertia ratios of the connected mechanical system and optimally adjusts the control parameters. This eliminates elaborate manual fine-tuning.
Web-based commissioning
EL.MOTION drives can be commissioned intuitively and quickly via a standard browser, and diagnostic functions, parameter lists, and adjustable scopes are clearly accessible. The intuitive user interface also allows for setup and diagnosis without special, additional software.
Communication without hurdles
Thanks to open interfaces and standardized description files (Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT from Q3/2026), integration into existing automation environments is effortless. Simple Ethernet/UDP connections are also supported.
Performance data
With a power input between 24 and 48 VDC, the linear units cover thrust forces from 250 N to 25 kN at speeds of 10 to 120 mm/s. The rotating machines deliver 1 to approximately 5 Nm at speeds of 225 to 1450 rpm.
Mechanically robust
The rotational speeds were chosen so that no gearbox is necessary and the drives can be integrated directly into the machine process. In addition, the motors are designed for high axial forces of up to 3000 N, thereby ensuring easy and quick connection. Generously dimensioned cross-sections of the linear units increase stability and minimize deformation risks under load.
Safety included
All EL.MOTION drives are optionally offered with Safe Torque Off (STO) function and UL certification.
Reliable under all conditions
Since motors are used worldwide and in a wide variety of environments, EL.MOTION drives are designed for operating temperatures from 0 to 60 °C and for storage temperatures from -20 to +80 °C. Furthermore, endurance tests with maximum torque and maximum speed guarantee long-term process reliability.
