Precise position recording with infrared edge sensors

Infrared edge sensors operate based on the photo cell principle and use an infrared LED as the light source. Depending on the function principle (refection principle or transmitted light principle), the light is reflected or shines through the material and is then recorded by a CCD line. The CCD elements illuminated in this way in the edge sensor issue a higher signal level due to the received light. The microcontroller converts the signal level into an output value proportional to the web edge position and transfers it via the CAN bus. This output value can be used to control a digital web guiding system, for example.
