Web width

The actual web width is the starting point.

An infrared sensor detects the actual web width without physical contact.

Position controller

The controller compares the actual web position (actual width) with the target web position (target width) and sends an appropriate correction signal to the actuator.

Actuator

The actuator corrects the web width. Depending on the application the correcting element is either an edge spreading system or a full width spreading system.
